Hiking and mountaineering in East Tyrol

East Tyrol is the land between the Grossglockner and the Dolomites and is therefore an absolute mountain hiking paradise.

The Dolomites in the south, the Hochstein in the west and the Schober group in the north offer a hiking experience for experienced mountain hikers as well as for families and senior citizens! Great mountain tours and numerous via ferratas round off the mountain adventure programme. Our hotel in the Lienz area is the ideal starting point for numerous tours in the Dolomites, the Kreuzeck group, the Schober group, but also the hiking paradise of the Hohe Tauern National Park is only a few minutes' drive from our hotel.

Just a few kilometres from the Tschitscher book and games hotel you will find a rich cultural offering

Set against the impressive backdrop of the Lienz Dolomites, the small historic town of Lienz has a beautiful old town centre and a town market that is well worth a visit.

The Museum of the City of Lienz at Bruck Castle is dedicated to the most famous East Tyrolean painter, Albin Egger-Lienz. There are also annually changing themed exhibitions.

The Archaeological Park and the Aguntum City Museum provide an impressive insight into the only Roman city on Tyrolean soil.

There are also a large number of other museums and cultural institutions in East Tyrol.

Swimming and active sports in East Tyrol

East Tyrol lies in the south-west of Austria and the Lienz Dolomites region is one of the sunniest holiday areas in Tyrol. Lake Tristach is only 12 km and Lake Weissensee only 35 km away from the Spiele- und Buchhotel Tschitscher.

Active sports: Two hunting archery courses at Kreithof near Lienz. A paragliding and hang-gliding school as well as ideal conditions for rafting and kayaking in the Isel.

The Nikolsdorf-Lienz sports airfield (LOKL) is only 3 kilometres from our hotel and is the most thermally interesting gliding airfield south of the main Alpine ridge.

From here you can enjoy fascinating scenic flights along the main Alpine ridge (Glockner & Venediger group) as well as the Lienz and Sexten Dolomites. For the perfect flying holiday in Lienz, we also have free WiFi.

The Dolomitengolf course in Lavant is only 5 kilometres away from our hotel and is one of the most beautiful 36-hole golf courses in Austria.

3 times 9 holes can be individually combined into three different 18-hole rounds of golf, all set against the magnificent panorama of the Lienz Dolomites with a view of the Hochstadel. Motorcycling in East Tyrol

Real motorbike fans will be thrilled. In the area between the Grossglockner and the Dolomites, there are numerous rally rides to the idyllic mountain roads of the neighbouring Friuli, Gail and Lesach valleys.

The Grossglockner Road and the Plöcken Pass are practically around the corner. The Spiele- und Buchhotel Tschitscher in Nikoldorf on the border between Carinthia and East Tyrol is the ideal starting point for numerous motorbike tours.

Nikolsdorf itself has 4 challenging mountain bike tours in the Lienz Dolomites region. There are 25 signposted top bike tours with descriptions and altitude profiles (560 km and 32,000 m difference in altitude).

All signposted tours lead past mountain huts or mountain inns, so that mountain bikers can fortify themselves before their descent.
